local chemo embolization

Post by Olga »

If a tumor is unresectable and it is needed to shrink it down to allow its resection in the future or as a palliative measure to stop it growth for awhile, there is some technology is avail. called local chemoembolization. In general the catheter is inserted under the CT guidance trough the small cut into the vein/artery and advanced toward the tumor in an attempt to cut off its blood flow and replace its drop by a chemo.
There are few types of this technology:

- Trans-Pulmonary Chemoembolisation (TPCE) for the lung tumors - more info on the web-site of one of the developers of this technique Prof.Vogl from Frankfurt:

- Transarterial Percutaneous Chemoembolisation (TACE) for the treatment of liver tumors

the techniques keeps evolving and it may have different names and abbreviates at the different clinics.

A friendly group of the LMS patients collected the names of the places where it is currently available:

Germany - Frankfurt Goethe Universitat prof.Vogl (is highly recommended for any local treatments of the very complex cases as he is very resourceful has got in his possession and every day use the most wide collection of the cutting edge technical tools.)

U.S. CA Mountain View El Camino Hospital
U.S. CA Palo Alto Stanford
U.S. CA Sacramento UC Davis Medical Center
U.S. CA San Francisco California Pacific Medical Center
U.S. CA San Francisco UCSF
U.S. CA Santa Monica Sarcoma Oncology Center
U.S. MA Boston Massachusetts General Hospital
U.S. NY New York NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell
U.S. NY New York St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center
U.S. OR Portland Oregon Health & Science University
U.S. TX Houston MD Anderson Cancer Center
U.S. WA Seattle Virginia Mason
U.S. WA Spokane Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center
U.S. WI Milwaukee Medical College of Wisconsin

I have no information if ASPS specifically is responsive to the local chemo embolization. If anyone has underwent this procedure please post the info here.
