Written about escaping the racially oppressive South in the '30s, "Sweet Home Chicago" has snaked its rhyming way into "The Blues Brothers" movie and soundtrack, prominent placement at the 1996 Democratic National Convention and, over and over for eternity, at blues nightclubs around Chicagoland.May 30, 2002

“Sweet Home Chicago"

Well have you heard the daily news
Mr. Goody Good Gum Shoe
He had to hurt a few
Just to keep the windy pretty
Big shouldered stocky yard dogs
Are gnawing on the photogs
But it's such an unconventional friendly city

Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago
Yes, and I may never go home no more

Hey hit 'em low
And stack 'em high
Waltz time around and watch 'em fry
You got to clean up the student bodies
Way down in Mexico

Hey Man
Here's what to do
You got to see Chicago Zoo
They got the flying northern redneck
And the goosestep point of view

Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago
Well darling I may never go home no more

Sweet Home Chicago, whoa yeah yeah
Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago
Sweet Home Chicago”

Carley Simmon

Love of my life ..

“I love lilacs and avocados
Ukuleles and fireworks
And Woody Allen and walking in the snow
But you've got to know that
You're the love of my life
You are the love of my life
You are the love of my life
You are the love of my life
From the moment I first saw you
The second that you were born
I knew that you were the love of my life
Quite simply the love of my life
I love Lucy and pumpernickel bread
The Statue Of Liberty and standing ovations
And falling into bed
But get it through your head that
You're the love of my life
You are the love of my life
You are the love of my life
You are the love of my life
From the moment I first saw you
The second that you were born
I knew that you were the love of my life
Quite simply the love of my life
You an drive me crazy
You can drive me anywhere
Here are the keys
Just do as you please
It may not always be easy
But you're the love of my life
My heart is riding on a runaway train
You are the love of my life
Through all the pleasure and pain
From the moment I first saw you
I knew it right away
I knew that you were the love of my life
Simply the love of my life
You are the love
The great love of my life.”

Writer/Director Nora Ephron called Simon in 1991 and asked her to score her upcoming film, "This Is My Life". Ephron told her, "It's 'our story', about the tricky business of raising children and maintaining a solid career, without the benefit of a live-in father". Simon has stated the inspiration for the song was her children, Ben Taylor and Sally Taylor.[4]

Simon re-recorded the song as a lullaby version for her 2007 album Into White. In this version, she altered the names in the first verse from "Woody Allen" to "Mia Farrow", and removed the third verse altogether.[5]

~ Suzanne~ sung by Judy Collins. Written by Leonard Cohen
One of my favorites from Judy Collins. And I am dedicating this song to my cousin who is fighting in harms way in Afghanistan.

“Ain't no use to keep taking abuse
From a friend who isn't kind
A friend in need or a friend that you need
Who can help you through the troubled times
So reach on out and take a hold of my hand
And let me know that you're ready to go
There ain't no dues and you can leave your blues behind
And have a little peace, just a little peace of mind
Give me some peace, peace of mind
There comes a time when your friends go blind
And their words become diseased
They threaten your life with the blade of a knife
And set you down upon your knees
Make no mistake for your very own sake
Here's a little word for now
Take off your shoes and let your thoughts be kind
And have a little peace, just a little peace of mind
Peace, peace of mind, make us feel better
Some folks you find speak a mighty good line
They charm you all the way
They take you along on a sweet, sweet song
Then they steal your heart away
But blessed be the one who can understand why
People have to act that way
'Cause if I knew I wouldn't even want to say
But have a little peace, just a little peace of mind
Give me some peace, yeah, peace of mind
Everybody wants peace, peace of mind
Peace, peace of mind
Peace, peace of mind
Peace, peace of mind
Peace, peace of mind
Everybody wants peace, peace of mind
Everybody needs peace, peace of mind
All we need is some peace”

gordon lightfoot miguel live in concert bbc 1972

“Never had much to say
He traveled alone with no friends
Like a shadowy ghost
At dawn he came and he went
Through the woodland swiftly gliding
To the young maid he came gliding
Where she'd run to meet him
By the garden wall
Oh my sweet Miguel
I will never tell
No one will ever know
What I know too well
And he'd smile and lay his head on her breast
And he'd say I have no fear
They're waiting for me to cross the border, to swim the river
But I've done that before
To see my true love's smiling face
A hundred times or more
Oh my sweet Miguel she cried
I'll love you till I die
He was born to the south
In Mexico they say
The child of a man
Who had soon gone away
But his mother loved him dearly
And she would take him yearly
To the great cathedral in St. Augustine
Oh my young Miguel
Listen to the bell
Of my poverty
You must never tell
And he cried himself to sleep in the night
And he vowed to make things right
So he took the gun down from the wall and he paid a call
He knew she'd understand
A lawman came to capture him
The gun jumped in his hand
Oh Miguel the mother cried
You must run son or you'll die
So the story is told
Of his true love 'cross the line
As strong as the oak
And as sweet as the vine
And the child she bore him
Came on that fateful mornin'
When they sent him to his final rest
Oh my sweet Miguel
Listen to the bell
No one will ever know
What I know too well
And she'd smile and lay the child on her breast
And she'd say I have no fear
I'm waiting for you to cross the border, to swim the river
'Cause you've done that before
To see your true love's smiling face
A hundred times or more
Oh my sweet Miguel she cried
I'll love you till I die“

pink rabbit the nationals lyrics - Google Search

I couldn't find quiet
I went out in the rain
I was just soakin' my head to unrattle my brain
Somebody said you disappeared in a crowd
I didn't understand then
I don't understand now

Am I the one you think about
When you're sitting in your faintin' chair drinking Pink Rabbits?
Am I the one you think about
When you're sitting in your faintin' chair drinking Pink Rabbits?

And everybody was gone
You were staring down the street 'cause you were tryin' not to crack up
It wasn't like a rain, it was more like a sea
I didn't ask for this pain, it just came over me
I love a storm, but I don't love lightning
All the waters coming up so fast, it's frightening

Am I the one you think about
When you're Sitting in your faintin' chair drinking Pink Rabbits?
Am I the one you think about
When you're sitting in your faintin' chair drinking Pink Rabbits?

And everybody was gone
I was staring down the street 'cause I was trying not to crack

I was solid gold
I was in the fight
I was coming back
From what seemed like a ruin
I couldn't see
You coming so far
I just turn around
And there you are

I'm so surprised you want to dance with me now
I was just getting used to living life without you around
I'm so surprised you want to dance with me now
You always said I held you way too high off the ground

You didn't see me I was falling apart
I was a white girl in a crowd of white girls in the park
You didn't see me I was falling apart
I was a television version of a person with a broken heart
You didn't see me I was falling apart
I was a white girl in a crowd of white girls in a park
You didn't see me I was falling apart
I was a television version of a person with a broken heart

And everybody was gone
You were staring down the street cause you were trying not to crack up
Bona Drag was still on
Now I only think about Los Angeles when the sound kicks out
Now I only think about Los Angeles when the sound kicks out

You said it would be painless
A needle in the dark
You said it would be painless
It wasn't that at all
You said it would be painless
A needle in the dark
You said it would be painless
It wasn't that at all (when the sound kicks out)

You said it would be painless
The needle in the dark (when the sound kicks out)
You said it would be painless
It wasn't that at all
